Equipment
It is the reponsibility of every person joining a hike to be adequately equiped. The leader of the hike has the right to refuse persons who in his/her opinion are inadequately equiped or prepared for the hike. For a list of grades of hikes see Calendar of Events.
Grade 1 and 2 hikes
The following list details the essential (minimal) equipment that every hiker should bring:
- Hillwalking boots (with adequate grip and ankle support)
- Adequate clothing (for altitudes and weather conditions encountered on the hike) with spare top or fleece
- Raingear: waterproof jacket with hood and waterproof over-trousers
- Rucksack (with waterproof liner or cover)
- Hat and gloves (especially in winter)
- Sufficient food and drink
Grade 3, 4, and 5 hikes
In addition to the equipment listed above, hikers should bring:
- Gaithers
- Map, compass and whistle
- Head torch and spare battery
- First aid kit/medication
- Bivy bag/survival bag
- Sun block, sun hat and sunglasses (especially in high summer or in snow conditions)
- Midge repellent (in summer)
